I have a decision of some import to make. Or perhaps I don’t really have to decide, and most likely this is not important at all. But please don’t tell any football fans I said so.
What’s up is a college game this next weekend. My nephew plays in the marching band at the school, north of here, where Beaver is the favored animal, and they wear black and orange.
In this college town where I reside folks are partial to Ducks of yellow and green. I like ducks. But I’ve cheered for a Beaver or two when I noticed them playing out in a uniformly-striped field. Especially after catching a glimpse of my nephew on trumpet in the stands.
Anyway, the Beavers have a chance to go, along with their band, down to Pasadena and play with roses in a bowl. Only, the Ducks would like to beat them this weekend so my nephew can’t toot his horn in the sunshine.
Who’s an aunt to yell for?
I think I’d better wait to hear the outcome of this year’s civil war game till after it’s over and the wailing, on one side or the other, has died down.

Deanna, I’m sure you’ll give a good share to both sides. You’ll just have to tell those duck lovers that your nephew must come first, and then tell your nephew that the neighbors will kill you for not being duck fan.
lol–I’d sleep late and apologize profusely. I hope your nephew gets to go. :)
Can’t help you with this one at all! Who are the ducks? Who are the beavers? Can you plead ignorance?!
About the snakes in Tasmania… no garter snakes here (not even sure I know what they are), but there are snakes in Tasmania. We have quite a few dangerous snakes including black snakes and tiger snakes. I have seen them when out bushwalking, usually sunning themselves on the track. We stand back and stomp on the ground and they feel the vibration and generally slither off, although once I was walking on duck board so they couldn’t feel the vibration and didn’t know I was there. I cautiously jumped off the duck board onto the ground and they finally woke up and moved on their way. Just have to keep your eye out when walking!
Sandy, you’re more correct than you realize – my next-door neighbors are rabid duck fans. They’re kinda cute.
Jodi, yeah, I hope he does, too.
Cecily, they’re the University of Oregon ducks and the Oregon State University beavers. Crazy sportsland, huh. Thanks for the info. on your local snakes. I guess I wouldn’t ship in dangerous fellas in order to swallow slugs. Have you found any enviro-friendly slug bait that works?
