“The truly creative mind in any field is no more than this: a human creature born abnormally, inhumanly sensitive. To him, a touch is a blow, a sound is a noise, a misfortune is a tragedy, a joy is an ecstasy, a friend is a lover, a lover is a god, and failure is death. Add to this cruelly delicate organism the overpowering necessity to create, create, create — so that without the creating of music or poetry or books or buildings or something of meaning, his very breath is cut off from him. He must create, must pour out creation. By some strange, unknown, inward urgency he is not really alive unless he is creating.” ~ Pearl S. Buck

I wonder if ‘creating’ a really good hot dog counts;)
Absolutely.
When I was a little kid, I would get to stay inside to practice piano while my brothers and sisters were made to do yard work. “Mary Beth doesn’t like to sweat,” Mother would tell them. Yep. I was a delicate organism even then! :)
Thanks for the nice tag by my name on your blogroll.
YES!!!!!!!
(Isn’t it a relief to find someone who understands when surrounded by those who don’t!? We are not ordinary, no, nope, nuh uh. Thank you, Pearl….and Deanna. I’m ‘borrowing’ this quote for my place.)
“embracing dorkhood”
That’s great! I always envy those people with “truly creative minds” who make up cool indexing tabs…
My librarian brain is a dictator and insists on Library of Congress-like categories. : )
its a very good quote. :)
Oh, I never got back to say thanks Beth, Cherie, Fresca, and Jodi, for chiming in. ‘Preciate it.
